Job Title: Senior Database Developer
Our client, one of the leading outsourced sales and marketing agencies in the Western hemisphere, is looking for a Database Developer with senior-level knowledge in database design, ETL design, systems maintenance and end user support. We are looking for someone who can diligently assist the Director of Technology with project management and systems analysis, and drive infrastructure and organizational initiatives across multiple IT disciplines. As our Senior Database Developer, you will:

  • Interface with the IT and Retail teams, project managers, and business analysts to understand new feature requests and applications
  • Gather design requirements and enhancements and translate into database designs, objects, and structures to meet business needs
  • Assist in the migration from on-premise data to cloud-driven (AWS) data using tools such as Talend and Amazon Aurora
  • Perform ongoing maintenance, monitoring, and upgrade of database systems and applications
  • Support and research production bugs, and focus on increasing automation and self-service levels
  • Perform database and ETL design and development to move and prepare data for applications and BI consumption
  • Serve as point of escalation and review for issues identified by the support team or monitoring services on a 24/7 basis
  • Collaborate with key vendors and embedded IT teams to provide added value solutions to our client’s SQL Server infrastructure
  • Research new database features and recommend their implementation into the existing technical environment
  • Participate in designing and implementing new database solutions to meet business needs.
  • Document systems in accordance with company standards
  • Provide technical presentations and training for development and support teams
  • Drive problem resolution and root cause analysis across the technology stack
  • Participate in resolving database availability, capacity, and performance issues
  • Be instrumental in the continual improvement of internal processes and SQL tools

What Gets You the Job?

  • Bachelor's Degree in Information Systems, Information Technology, Computer Science/Engineering or equivalent experience
  • 5+ years of experience with SQL Server or PostgreSQL database development
  • 3+ years’ experience as a senior database developer
  • 3+ years’ experience developing applications in Transact-SQL and ETL pipelines
  • Proven understanding of SDLC standards
  • SQL, PostgreSQL, data warehousing, database design, ETL development and support (SSIS required, Talend is a plus)
  • Proficiency with MS Excel (Formulas, Pivot Tables, VLookup) and familiarity with MS Word and Outlook
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Ability to work in a dynamic collaborative team environment
  • Experience leading projects or teams is a plus
  • Flexibility and willingness to participate in on-call rotation

Position Summary

?

The Senior Engineer Database position is responsible for assisting the Director Technology with project management, systems analysis, and other managerial functions, as well as standard Specialist Technology functions, such as database design, ETL design and systems maintenance and end user support.

?

The Senior Engineer Database interfaces with multiple members of the Advantage IT team and retail business units on a technical level.? The Senior Engineer Database demonstrates an enterprise view and understanding of systems and technologies related to the Retail business and is responsible for interacting with Retail Project Managers and Analysts to gather design requirements and enhancements that ultimately will translate into database designs and objects he or she will develop to support the specific business initiative. In addition, ongoing maintenance, monitoring, and upgrades of database systems and applications will be expected, as well as support and research into production bugs, and other issues.? Candidate will also be a key member is helping in the migration from on prem data to AWS cloud driven data using cloud-based tools such as Talend, and AWS Aurora. This includes documenting systems in accordance with company standards.? The Senior Engineer Database serves as a point of escalation and review for issues or concerns identified by the support team or monitoring services on a 24x7 basis.?

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities

?

Database Technology Solutions Development

  • Work with the Retail team, including business analysts and project managers, to understand new feature requests and applications and translate those requests into database objects and structures to meet those needs. This includes both database and ETL design and development to move and prepare data for applications and BI consumption.
  • Focus on further increasing the levels of automation and self-service.
  • Collaborate with key vendors and Embedded IT teams in providing innovative added value solutions to Advantage’s SQL Server infrastructure.

Operationalize new database features

  • Research new database features and provide recommendations on their implementation into the environment.
  • Participate in designing and implementing new database solutions to meet business needs.
  • Provide detailed documentation, technical presentations and training for development and support teams.

Problem Resolution and Process Management

  • Drive problem resolution and root cause analysis across the technology stack.
  • Participate in the resolution of database availability, capacity, and performance issues.
  • Contribute to ongoing improvement of internal processes and SQL tools.
  • Participate in infrastructure and organizational initiatives across multiple IT disciplines.

Minimum Qualifications

Education Level:?(Required)??Bachelor's Degree??or equivalent experience

Field of Study/Area of Experience:? Information Systems, Information Technology, Computer Science / Engineering or equivalent experience.

  • 5+ years of experience in SQL Server or PostgreSQL Database Development
  • 3 + years’ experience as a Senior Professional DBD
  • 3 + years’ experience developing applications in Transact-SQL
  • 3 + years’ experience of developing ETL pipelines

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

  • Demonstrated strong knowledge of and adherence to SDLC standards
  • Demonstrated ability to interface with collaborative work groups to resolve service issues
  • Ability to participate and drive problem resolution and root cause analysis
  • Ability to analyze situations and develop solutions
