What You Will Do

  • Act as SolarWinds administrator and SME (subject matter expert) in an enterprise, virtualized environment
  • Collaborate with various cross-functional teams and personnel including architects, system engineers, and project managers to develop/implement/document appropriate procedures and solutions in compliance with standard business best practices
  • Design, develop, test, troubleshoot, deploy and maintain monitoring solutions, reports, alerts and dashboards
  • Lead troubleshooting efforts and root cause analysis for business-critical environment
  • Lead the design, implementation, and maintenance of highly complex and integrated solutions, coordinating activities with technical personnel as appropriate
  • Monitor and administer Aix, Linux and Windows servers, virtual infrastructure
  • Monitor network devices, storage devices, databases and application servers using various monitoring tools
  • Manage and configure monitoring and patch management servers (plug-ins and policies)
  • Download, stage, and deploy software updates
  • Conduct capacity planning reviews with management
  • Analyze systems and prepare documentation for investment recommendation(s) based on assessment of current and future performance, stability, and systems management/life cycle issues
  • Develop and implement training tools and corresponding documentation
  • Develop strategies to manage the frequency of appropriate support package/patch application
  • Design, plan and implement modifications/upgrades to existing Altiris on patch management
  • Configure the Service Catalog for the enterprise
  • Implement solutions for software and baseline image deployment
  • Work with Database monitoring tools

What Gets You the Job?

  • Bachelor’s Degree with 8+ years overall experience (hands-on implementation and/or monitoring systems support in large enterprise environments)
  • 3+ years’ hands-on experience with SolarWinds administration
  • Prior experience in a virtualized environment
  • Implementation, configuration, and management of modules such as IPAM, NTA, NPM, NCM, WPM, Patch Management, Server & Application Monitor, Storage Resource Monitor, User Device Tracker, VoIP & Network Quality Manager (VNQM)
  • Prior hands-on experience with ICMP, HTTP, HTTPS, SSH, SNMP, WMI, Netflow & Web Transaction monitoring
  • Understanding of networking concepts, and experience with Windows/Unix/Linux
  • Working knowledge of Oracle and MS-SQL Database
  • Scripting experience (i.e. Perl, Python, Shell, Javascript, XML, HTML)
  • Strong knowledge of Netflow, SNMP, Packet Analysis
  • Excellent communication (written/verbal/presentation) and collaboration skills
  • Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills
  • Transaction Monitoring knowledge, understanding of network protocols, networking (routing/switching) concepts
  • Certifications are a plus: MCSA, MCSE, CCNA, CCNP, RHCSA, RHCE, CCA, CCAA, ITIL, VMware
  • Citrix XenApp and/or XenDesktop design and implementation experience is a plus
